Another Project Bites the Dust

Last week I finally got my act together and finished off the little shawlette I was knitting for my friend at work.  This is the second time I’ve used the pattern, and just quietly, I think I like this second one better than the one I made for myself.  I used Cascade 220 Heather, and the colour is a gorgeous Autumn gold/brown.  It’s great to see someone other than myself wearing my work too 🙂

I also had a fairly productive weekend in the yarn dyeing department, since I was running out of the yellows/oranges/chocolates I’ve been using for a shaped garter shawl for myself.  The pattern (Celadon by Ambah O’Brien) is another simple relaxing knit, so it’s coming along rather quickly.

 

And Another WIP Bites The Dust…

Here is my Rainbow Wrap, officially blocked and looking lovely on my table! As much as this pattern sometimes irritated me (it was a well-written pattern, but it made me go a bit brain dead after a while), it’s turned out to be a stunner and I’m really happy with the end result. As you can see the colours look great together when folded, or tied around your neck 🙂  I can’t wait to wear this to work tomorrow!

 

Leaves and Socks

It’s been a while since I posted last, because I’m slack.  That doesn’t mean I haven’t been doing anything though!   Last week I finally finished my Cedar Leaf Shawlette.  I am SO happy with it.  After blocking it ended up over two metres in length, and I’m sure will be a regular accessory in the cold weather in a couple of months time.  That pattern was extremely easy and very well written, and I already have the yarn to make another for a friend.

My current WIP is another pair of socks.  This pair is in stockingette stitch, no fancy pattern, which is easier to frog when I inevitably make a mistake or three.  It’s been knitting up extremely fast, but it’s not that surprising as I’ve recently made the switch to flick knitting and I’m now FLYING through the rows 🙂

 

The Girl On Fire

I’m on fire!  The beach shawl is finally finished, after a big push over the last couple of days to get it done (so I can move on to a NEW PROJECT! shhh).  I’m really happy with it; I love how the colour has worked out.  I’ll block it over the weekend and hopefully will stretch it to a larger size – at the moment it’s large enough to drape over my shoulders but I’d need a pin to keep it around me.  I’ve now started the Cedar Leaf Shawlette, which looks absolutely gorgeous and seems to be a rather quick knit.  I got a call from my local yarn store yesterday to tell me that my second skein of Lorna’s Laces Shepard Worsted Multi in the Baltic Sea colourway has arrived and is awaiting my purchase, so that is what I’m using for this shawlette.  It’s an amazing forest colour – greens and browns reminiscent of a forest floor.  Perfect for this leafy shawl!  It’s beautiful to knit with too, silky and smooth and it glides across the needles like a dream.

Exploring the Art of the Fingerless Glove

During some downtime (HA who am I kidding, I MAKE downtime to get out of study so I can crochet instead) I’ve been working on a version of my original fingerloop gloves pattern that’s free on Ravelry (you can find it here if you are interested).  This new version is going to include a heart on the top of the glove, but it’s proving a little difficult to work up.  It doesn’t help that I used varigated yarn for my test glove – the pattern gets a bit lost in all that colour changing!  It’s also too short at the moment, so the next test glove I make I have a few ideas to get the glove to cover more of your hand.  Hopefully I’ll be able to get some family members to test the pattern in the next week or so, and then upload it to Ravelry 🙂

Bunting And A Random Square

During one of my more enthusiastic crochet moments a couple of months ago, I made up a bundle of cute triangle blocks in various bright acrylic colours, in order to make a blanket for my stepdaughter’s room.  Unfortunately over those few months it seems I have indeed become a yarn yuppie, and crocheting in that much crappy acrylic makes my heart hurt!  So I spent one evening this week making bunting out of the blocks, and I finally put it up in my stepdaughter’s room today.  I’m so happy with it!  It makes the room so much brighter and I hope Jade loves it too.

I also used some of my leftover yarn from the Sophie’s Universe CAL and made a random square that I saw on a facebook page last week.  I’m absolutely in love with this pattern (AND the yarn, Cascade 220 is AMAZING to work with) and I’m tempted to say that I’ll make a blanket out of it as well!  For now though, it remains a solitary block with no purpose other than to admire 🙂

The Shawl After Blocking

I freed my shawl from blocking a couple of days ago, and has been hanging with my bridesmaid dress on the door looking very pretty.  I’m very impressed with myself, can you tell?! Blocking it has indeed stretched it a little bit, enough to make it drape properly over your arms now.  If I had to do this pattern again I would simply add some extra flowers, and perhaps a few more rows of double trebles.

CAL Progress

I’ve finally finished part four, and I’m now working on part five which came out on Sunday.  The last part took quite a bit of brain power – which I lack in the evenings after work – so there was a bit of frogging involved!  I got there in the end though, and I’m still enjoying the pattern and the yummy colours.

Crochet Bag…..Well, Because I Was Bored

I started playing with some patterns I’ve pinned on my Pinterest, and while I watched some TV last night I crocheted this cute little bag.  I gifted my friend with it this morning, but I think I will be making more of these in the future – predominantly to house little gifts etc.
